The New Generation Ergo Baby Carrier
has some real advantages over a sling carrier like the Maya Wrap. The ERGO carrier is easy to adjust and keeps the child very secure. In contrast, I found the slings to be very hard to adjust and I also didn't feel very secure with a sling - I was afraid my baby was going to flip out of it at any moment, so my hands were never free.
For lots more information on the ERGO and how it compares to other carriers, see our FAQs (17 FAQs), as well as our Comparisons of the ERGO carrier to other popular baby carriers on the market. Also see our Comparison Chart which gives a quick reference of the comparison of the ERGO Carrier to all the different styles of baby carriers.

Some Benefits of the ERGO vs. Sling Carriers:
- The ERGO is easy to adjust and wearable as a front or back carrier.
- The ERGO keeps your baby very secure, so both hands can be free. I always felt I needed to keep a hand around my baby when using a sling to make sure she didn't squirm out.
- Like a sling carrier, you can nurse while your baby is in the ERGO Carrier.
- The ERGO is very lightweight like a sling.
- The ERGO is much more versatile than the slings since it has pockets and pouch to carry things.
- The ERGO allows you to carry a child as they grow more comfortably than a sling since the weight is distributed on your hips and both shoulders. A sling puts the weight on just one shoulder.
- The ERGO can carry newborns (with insert), babies, and toddlers (up to 40 lbs.) - so you only need one carrier for your child's early years.
