How can just one carrier be suitable for a newborn, a baby, and a toddler?
That's what is so cool about The New Generation Ergo Baby Carrier - you really don't need another carrier, if you start out with this one. There is a specially designed Infant Insert that allows you to carry a newborn or infant in sort of a lying down position. Then, at around 13-14 weeks, many babies are ready to sit up in the insert with their legs wrapped around Mom's belly. Eventually, when the baby has good head control, he can sit in the front carrier without the insert. He still may want to sit cross-legged or with just one leg hanging down, till he gets used to having his legs away from his own body. By 5 months or so, you can try him in the back carrier position for some variety. Toddlers are usually easier to carry in the back position, because they are so heavy, but if necessary, they can still be carried in the front as well.

What is so "ergo" about The New Generation Ergo Baby Carrier and how does this help babies and parents?
This baby carrier is ergonomically designed - meaning it is made to work efficiently, comfortably, and safely for both the adult and the baby using it. The New Generation Ergo Baby Carrier distributes the baby's weight to the parent's hips and shoulders, much like a good backpack would. It also supports the baby's spine by cradling him in a seated position, which is a natural position - unlike other carriers, e.g. Baby Bjorn, which have baby hanging by his crotch. Some people feel that this positioning is extremely important and that improper positioning can cause compression of the spine.

Who manufactures The New Generation Ergo Baby Carrier and why haven't I ever heard about it before?
The designer/manufacturer is a Mom in Hawaii. She is very into attachment parenting and therefore has carried her now toddler with her constantly from birth - much like mothers in most cultures all around the globe. Anyhow, she tried a variety of carriers and felt each one could stand improvement, so she decided to make her own. It is only fairly recently, in January 2003, that she has gone into mass production. At this point they are mainly available through the Internet. Because it is hard to know from a picture and description on your computer screen, whether or not this carrier will work for you, we are offering a 90 day money back guarantee.
